The top 10 contenders who have competed in the 10/11 rodeo season, which ends on 30th September 2011 in the steer riding, barrel race and breakaway roping shall be entitled to compete for APRA Championships at the Junior NFR. In the event that a qualifier or qualifiers in any of the events are unable to compete at the NFR then the next highest contestant in that event in the APRA Junior standings shall be eligible to compete. 2. The Junior NFR qualifiers in the three events and All Around Category shall carry no previous earnings into the Finals, but shall all start even. The Australian champion in each event shall be the contestant earning the most money at the Junior NFR. If for any reason the round money alters from that advertised then all events and rounds will be recorded as equal payouts for the purpose of determining the Australian Champion. 3. In each event, there shall be a minimum of three complete go rounds. Four places shall be paid in each go round and the aggregate on the basis of 40%, 30%, 20%, 10%, however for the sake of determining the Australian Champions, the aggregate payouts will be calculated as follows: 1st 30%, 2nd 22.5%, 3rd 15%, 4th 7.5% based on prize money equal to each round. In any situation should there be less than 4 qualified times or scores in any event the place getters will be paid out as per APRA prize money breakdown however only the prize money won equivalent to their placing will be counted in their NFR standings i.e. Should only one competitor qualify in a particular event they will receive all of the prize money in that round however only the equivalent of the first place pay out will be counted towards NFR standings. 4. The champion in each event shall be the contestant earning the most money at the NFR but in the event there is a tie, then the following condition shall apply: a In the event of a tie for the All Around Championship at the conclusion of the last go round, those contestants that are tied shall compete on additional stock, in the following manner until the tie is broken and the champion declared. If a contestant in the tie is competing at the Junior NFR in more than one event, they shall elect the event in which they will compete in the tie breaker. In the event that the contestants tied are competing in the same event, the contestant with the highest mark or the lowest time on the additional stock shall be the champion. In the event that the contestants tied are competing in different events, each contestant shall compete on an additional head of stock in this event, with that mark or time ranked against the marks or times in his event in the last go round, with the contestant having the highest ranking being the All Around Champion. (That is, if a barrel racer is tied with a steer rider, another steer would be ridden and another barrel racing course run. If the steer rider's mark would have placed him fifth in the last go round and the barrel racers time would have placed them first, the tie is broken and the barrel racer would be declared the All Around Champion). 5. (a) NFR contestants may, upon filing a proper medical release with the NFR secretary, draw out of a go round or go rounds and remain eligible to win a Championship. (The contestant earning the most money shall be the Australian Champion). (b) In the event that a contestant is awarded a reride he must take that reride before the end of the performance in which the reride was awarded. 6. Contestants at the NFR shall wear identifying garments, if provided, in an appropriate place, at each performance of the NFR. A contestant shall receive no marking or time unless such identifying garments are worn. 7. In the breakaway roping for the first performance of the NFR the contestants shall compete in the reverse order of the APRA finalist standings at the end of the 2011 season. That is the 10th person in the standings shall compete first, and the first person in the standing shall compete last. The Barrel Race will be a random draw and then reverse for the second round, third round random. In the breakaway roping the second round shall be drawn in random order and then reversed for the third round. In the breakaway roping, if two contestants follow one another and wish to use the same horse, the contestant in the lower position in the APRA finalist standings shall compete in an earlier position in the performance, so as not to delay or slow the production of the rodeo. That is, if the NFR contestants are using the same horse, then the person in ninth position shall move to eighth position and the person in eighth position would then take his place. A contestant who qualified in two or more events for the NFR may elect to compete in only one event, but such selection must be made known to the Rodeo Administration of the APRA by entry closing date 5pm Thursday, 22nd September 2011. 8. A full rehearsal for the Grand Entry may be scheduled for the morning of the first performance. 9. Two (2) extra calves shall be brought to the arena for each go round to be used in case of a rerun. For the last performance, two calves from the balance of the herd regardless of the pen, be brought up to be used in the case of a tie. In the other events, two extra head of stock shall be brought up for each performance with four (4) extra head to be brought up for the last performance. 10. The function of the stock selection committee is to: (a) Select the stock for NFR and (b) Place this stock in event pens. These committees shall take no part in adjusting the stock from one pen to another at the NFR. If necessary, this shall be done by the directors. 11. No contestant may draw the same head of stock in the same event in any round of the NFR. 12. In all other respects, APRA rules shall apply at the NFR. 13. No personal sponsorship without prior arrangements. 14. Any horses used at the NFR may be tested for performance enhancing drugs. Disqualification, fines and suspension may be imposed on contestants and owners should their horse test positive.

Buckle up for 2011 Xstrata Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo
Preparations are well underway for one of Outback Australia's biggest annual events - the 2011 Xstrata Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo being held from August 12 to 14.

This year's event - now in its 53rd year - is much more than the best rodeo action in the Southern Hemisphere, according to rodeo manager Patricia Esdaile. "This year's event will feature fantastic new attractions including a Country of Origin Bull Ride with American, Canadian, Brazilian and Kiwi rodeo stars taking on our local boys," said Tricia. Visitors will also have a new accommodation option this year - with a "swag city" set up onsite at Buchanan Park, site of the magnificent floodlit Kalkadoon Stadium which hosts three days of rodeo competition, including bull riding, saddle bronc and bareback, steer wrestling, roping, ladies barrel racing and breakaway roping. "Staying at the swag city will give visitors a true Outback experience for the weekend - they can roll out their swag and camp under the stars," said Tricia. "And thanks to the Events Queensland Regional Development Program, we will be super sizing all the 2011 action on a 40 square metre screen with instant action replays." This incredible annual event has grown from humble beginnings in 1959 which attracted just over 3000 people including 120 nominations competing for 500 pounds prize money. Today - the event is huge! The Isa literally pumps with excitement as more than 26,000 visitors arrive for a spectacular festival of world-class rodeo action, entertainment and Outback atmosphere. This year's rodeo will attract around 600 nominations vying for up to $200,000 in prizes (cash and buckles). Outside the stadium, the whole city catches the rodeo spirit - with local businesses and schools competing in the "Best Dressed" Competition including for best window display, best dressed school and best dressed business premises. The action kicks off on Friday, August 12 with the rodeo getting underway at midday, leading into the opening Mardi Gras Parade from 5pm, with plenty of free family entertainment. The weekend focus is on rodeo competition, leading up to the Sunday finals. Other rodeo week events include the Zonta Bush Poets Breakfast and Mailman Express Sprint Horse Race, a 200 metre sprint from a running start open to non-thoroughbred horses. Mount Isa is located in north-west Queensland, 900km inland from Townsville along the Overlander's Way and is easily accessed by direct flights from Brisbane, Gold Coast, Darwin, Townsville and Cairns, as well as by road and bus. Visitors coming earlier or staying on after the rodeo can explore local attractions including Outback at Isa where you can take a "Hard Times Mine Tour" or visit the Riversleigh Fossil Centre, Lake Moondarra, and the region's twin jewels, Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) National Park and the fascinating Riversleigh Fossil Fields.
